Day 30: Something you never get tired of doing

Eating Crab Legs

Ok, I know I should say something like hanging out with my husband, my children, my career, or whatever else there is, but I am being realistic. Seriously, there are days when I do get sick of Brett, although they are rare, and few and far between. There are days when I get sick of my kids, but it is not as much my kids as it is the whining and neediness. I love what I do, but there are days I get sick of it too. Life is full of wonderful things, but sometimes I just need a break from it all. The thing I never really need a break from is eating Crab legs!

I also never get tired of reading. Books are my escape, outlet, and learning tool.

Day 29: Your Biggest Pet Peeve

Of course because I am who I am, my biggest pet peeves have to do with words:

Mistakes with too, two, and to.
Mistakes with your and you're.
When people say irregardless, do you not know what "regardless" means?

Other pet peeves I have:

When people chew with their mouth open.
When people ask for cash on wedding announcements. (I understand why, but really?)

Day 28: Your Favorite Movie

I have a few favorite movies:

The BBC Pride and Prejudice- This is my favorite movie because it is a classic movie based on an amazing story. It has Collin Firth. It is from my favorite time period. And the language... I love words, and the way they tell this story is moving.

The Man Who Knew Too Little- This is a great comic relief movie. I love it. I saw it when I was younger, and have loved it ever since. I laugh every time. I think the whole thing is ridiculous and hilarious, and just so great.

Day 27: A picture of you last year and now and how have you changed since then?

This year!

Last year!

Changes:
I weigh more now, but not by much.
I had shorter hair a year ago, but not by much.
I had bangs a year ago.
I was in Disneyland a year ago, and am not now.
Honestly, not much has changed!

My Valentine's Day

Because Brett works in a restaurant, and they tend to be fairly busy on Valentine's Day, I don't get the traditional Valentine's Day date. However, I am not complaining. I have a wonderful husband who spoils me all the time, and so VD is just another day where I get spoiled. I get far more flowers than the average girl, tons of delicious food, and have one of the most thoughtful husbands out there.

On Saturday when I got home from my cruise, I was greeted by this lovely bouquet, with all of my favorite flowers.

Tonight I got another bouquet of flowers, as well as cream puffs, a delicious sea bass, and a big sugar cookie. Can I say spoiled? Ok, I know I am.

So how did I spend my Valentine's Day if Brett was working? With my kids, my parent's kids, and my neighbor's kids. I figure if I can't go out with my hubby on VD, why not babysit so someone else can? We had such a great time.

We made about 56 mini pizzas, and decorated cupcakes, and then we watched a movie. 11 kids in all! It was a lot of fun. Derrick even got into it.

Day 22: A letter to someone who hurt you recently

I honestly can't think of anyone who has hurt me recently. I think the last time I let someone hurt me was in college when I wore my heart on my sleeve and a boy took advantage of it. Haha, but really, my life is good. So instead I am going to write a letter to all of those who haven't hurt me.

To my friends and family-
I love you guys. Thanks for being there for me, for loving my kids, for putting up with my crazy. I probably don't say it enough, and I should.
Thanks, Rachael

Day 21: A photo of something that makes you happy

Something that makes me happy is cruises. The reason why is that it usually involves everything I love...

Food, delicious food.
Beaches, amazing beaches.
Friends and family.
Sleeping in.

Day 20: The Meaning Behind Your Blog Name

The meaning behind my blog name-

Well, I personally think it is self explanatory. We are an insane lot here, but with just enough sanity to not be committed. The story behind it is really none too exciting. I was browsing my friend's blogs, and debating whether or not I should start a blog, as I write all day long, I wasn't sure if I would want to write in a blog too. I came across one friend's blog that is something to the effect of "A little bit crazy!" and I laughed to myself thinking, "She is only a little crazy, and I am only a little sane." The idea was born, and so it is, a blog!

The blog helps me stay sane, in a weird way it is a great outlet for me. It allows me to do what I do best, write, without any of the pressure of writing for something or someone. It is for me. I don't try to use great prose, or prosaic text, it is where I get to throw up my thoughts on the page, and not really care if it makes any sense, has good grammar or proper punctuation. It is mine, and I get to post what I want, when I want, how I want. I get to brag, vent, and share. I can be honest about who I am, what I want out of life, and what I love about the life I have. If no one reads it, that is fine. If no one comments, that is fine too. It is for me, and if others enjoy it, or read it, then I am humbled that they care enough to do so, but if they don't, then I still get what I want out of it.

Blogs are a fun way to journal. I have contemplated writing a meaningful or helpful blog for others, I even started one for working moms, but only got two posts in before I gave up. I don't want a blog that is a business, or that has expectations. I want a blog that can be for me and for whatever I want it for, 30 day challenges, updates, photo sharing, or whatever else. This way my kids get to be first, and if I don't post for weeks or months at a time, it is just fine!

So, here we are, a hint of sanity, a touch of crazy, and a lot of in between.

Day 19: Another picture of yourself

Here I am! No makeup, in my PJ's, hair straight and flat. Pretty typical for me! Lol. I probably should get "gussied up" and take a photograph one of these days. Maybe on my birthday, like I do with the kids. JK

Day 18: Something you crave a lot

Ok, the thing that I crave a lot is the delicious pork salads from Cafe Rio. I could eat it almost every day. Even when I was pregnant, and puked up everything I ate, I likes these salads. I like it with black beans, extra pico, shredded lettuce, and light on the tortilla strips. Yum! I have Cafe Rio on my speed dial. Haha. Good thing there is one a mile away from my house.

Day 17: A Photo of You and Your Family

This is not the greatest picture of my family, but it is the most recent one we have, sad I know, but since I am usually the one behind the camera, it is hard to find one with all of us in it. Looking through several months worth of photos to find even one with all of us in it has made me commit to taking at least one picture of all of us in it each month. We will see if I actually do it. Haha

Day 16: Your Celebrity Crush

Okay, this is hilarious, but it is Michael Vartan. I think he is extremely sexy. I know, I know, I have a think for skinny guys. He has a bit of a rat face, and I think it is quite appealing. He looks great serious and smiling. This is my celebrity crush, and poor Brett is well aware of it. Too many hours spent watching Alias!

Day 15: Something you don't leave the house without

The one thing I never leave the house without is my iPod. It has my books, my music, games, weather, email, my calendar, gps, oh and the list goes on. I love the Kindle application as it means when I am stuck in a line somewhere, or have a few spare minutes I can enjoy a book. I keep it loaded with audiobooks, fun play lists for every mood, and enjoy the convenience of all the application available on it. I used to always take my iPhone, but when I switched providers, Brett inherited my iPhone, and so I am back to my iPod touch. Thank goodness Brett had the foresight to buy me one with 32 gigs, as I certainly use it. And, one of the best perks is that when I really need my kids to behave, slipping them the iPod with a game like Angry Birds all cued up is a lifesaver.

Day 14: A TV show you are currently addicted to

Wow, this is a great one. We love television. I never really watched TV at all before Brett and I got married, and now it is one of my favorite past times. It is bad, and good. It is good because the time we spend watching television is not spent out spending. It is a good thing we can do on the late nights when Brett gets home from work after most stuff is closed. It is bad because it can be really time consuming, but sometimes you need something to curl up and watch together when your brain does not want to function. Right now my favorite show is Vampire Diaries. Although Parenthood and 30 Rock are close behind. Check them out, you will probably like them too.

I like VD because it is fun. I don't particularly agree with the values in it, but I think the plot is intriguing, and it is a fun show to follow. 30 Rock is all about humor, and Parenthood is a feel good show that any parent can relate to.

Day 13: Your favorite musician and why

Oh this is such a hard one for me. I love music in general, in fact, I consider music one of the most important parts of my life. I do not play any instruments, nor do I sing. However, I love listening to music, I find it relaxing, inspiring, entertaining. I love all music. I really do, I find enjoyment in the sappy and silly country ballads, the rhythm and rhyme in a rap, the beauty of an orchestra, the catchiness of a pop song, etc. A few of my favorite songs and artists are as follows:

Ace of Base- All that she wants
Frank Sinatra- I get a kick out of you
George Strait- Write this down
Josh Groban- When you say you love me
Sara Bareilles- Between the Lines
Pat Benetar- Hit me with your best shot

Ok, I have decided to put a stop to this because the list will be very long indeed. My favorite musician depends a lot on my mood and what I want to listen to. Sometimes 70 R&B like Stevie Wonder is what I want, and other times I love cheesey TV music like Come on Get Happy from the Partridge Family. Thus, the best answer is, "I will tell you when you ask me."

Day 12: Photos of where you live

I live in Orem, UT. It is a pretty good place to live, by no means where I want to be long term, but a good place none the less. The neighborhoods are safe, the schools adequate, the mountains beautiful, the location in Utah fairly central. All in all, I am happy with where we are. We have great lake access, and great mountains to enjoy. We live close to all the conveniences of shopping, dining, etc. and we are really close to our family, which is great as the kids love to play with their cousins and aunts and uncles, and it is nice to see Grandmas and Grandpas as often as possible.
Here are a few pictures of where I live!

Day 11: What is in my makeup bag

This is a great question. I wish the answer was more than it is. I want to wear makeup, and as I age and my skin is not as great, I wish I was better at it. My makeup bag is very small and contains a tube of mascara, a 4 pack of eyeshadow in brown, some brushes, fingernail clippers, some chapstick, a fun eyeshadow my friend gave me, and a tube of concealer. And, when I am not out, which I am right now, moisturizer because I have the world's driest skin. At the bottom of the makeup bag are bobby pins, hair ties, little rubber bands, etc.

It is funny because I had this conversation with Christa in October about how I always see girls with huge makeup bags, and perfect makeup and I wonder what is in those bags. It is like a big mystery to me, as I don't know what else to get besides maybe some foundation. Then we started discussing things like bronzer, and compact powders, and my head started spinning. I should be grateful my husband is not a guy who cares about makeup, and that for most of my life I have not needed much if any. Now a days, as I  get less and less sleep and have more and more stress, it is probably wise for me to apply a little more.

Have a great day!

Day Ten: A picture of your fave place to eat

Harvest is my favorite place to eat. I usually get to eat for free or cheap because it is Brett's restaurant. I always get great service, first because the servers there are awesome, and second because they all know me. The food is...well delicious. I mean it is like so dang yummy. My favorites are the rock shrimp nachos, the tomato basil soup (which they only have seasonally, sad face), any of their seafood specials, the fillet, and for dessert I typically like creme brulee or the chocolate butterscotch tart.

Yum! If you haven't tried it you should, and if you got Mon-Wed in February, it is buy one entree get one free. So it is a great time to give it a try. Valentine's Day is the exclusion on that deal.

Birthday bowling and icecream

For Danny's 5th Birthday Gma and Gpa, or Mom and Dad to Danny, took the family bowling. We tagged along because we thought it sounded like a great time. It was. The kids had a blast and put the bumpers to good use. The adults started out strong, and slowly grew more and more tired, as our scores seemed to reflect. After the bowling we headed over to my kid's favorite place Baskin Robbins for some 31 flavors. I had preordered these cute little ice cream cones with frosting on them to make them look like clowns. The kids sure enjoyed their sweet treat, and we weren't the only ones wanting ice cream, the place was packed. Anyway, it was a fun night. Check out some of the silly pictures below! Happy Birthday Danny, we hope you had as much fun as we did!
